Patient Support Program Surpasses 260 Customers [09/27/08]

As part of overall strategy to help increase pharmacy revenue and lower operating costs, OPUS-ISM’s has introduced a number of value-added marketing and data programs. The goal of these programs is to give OPUS-ISM pharmacy customers a competitive edge in their community, raise levels of customer service with patients, and lower the overall costs of their pharmacy management systems.

 

The OPUS-ISM Through-the Mail Patient Support Program automatically sends written refill reminders to the patients of participating pharmacies based on point of dispensing data.  The letters are addressed from the participating pharmacy and are delivered through first class mail.  These personalized letters include the contact information of the dispensing pharmacy to direct the patient back to the pharmacist. Types of letter programs include:

·         Enrollment letter – the initial communication received by the patient following an initial prescription that explains the treatment program and other drug specific information.  

·         Reminder letter – usually arrives about 1-7 days prior to the refill due date and may discuss, refill information, drug information, disease and lifestyle information.

·         Urgent reminder – timing is variable but will arrive after a refill is missed by x number of days and encourages the patient back on track with refills.

·         Last reminder – status of the prescription refills is described indicating no refills remain and reinforces the need for talking with their physician or pharmacist about the need to continue therapy.

·         Next Rx – Reminder sent after the last refill associated with an Rx has been picked up and is close to running out. 

·         Drug recalls – when a product recall occurs, notifies current patients on the medication

 

In addition to offering a valuable customer support service, participating pharmacies receive a credit against their OPUS-ISM bill based on the number of letters mailed.  Since the launch of this program in March 2008, over 260 OPUS-ISM customers have joined the program. In addition, the number of drugs covered as part of this refill reminder program has increased from 8 to more than 50.
